Quotes of the Day from the Men's C2 and K1 finals competition

Australian Canoeing Media Services, Sunday, 2 October 2005

Men's C2 Semi-Final - Timothy Baillie and Etienne Stott (GBR)
On their run:
Stott: "We've paddled better. I'd rate it about a seven out of ten. We had 4 penalty points."
Baillie: "I don't think it was that good. It was pretty shoddy."
Stott: "Well, I don't know if shoddy is the right word."

Men's C2 Semi-Final - Marcus Becker and Stefan Henze (GER)
On finding out they had qualified for the C2 final:
Becker: "We're feeling quite scrambled, we didn't expect to make it through."

On scraping into the finals, then winning the bronze medal:
"It's unbelievable. We had nothing to lose. We pushed all the power in the course."

Men's C2 Final- Christian Bahmann and Michael Senft (GER) - Gold Medal
On winning a World Championship:
Senft: "It feels great! I'm missing the words at the moment."

Men's C2 Final- Marek Jiras and Tomas Mader (CZE) - 8th Place
Jiras: "There were too many touches and we made a big mistake on gates 18 and 19. It wasn't perfect but it's just a race and it's not all there is to life."

Men's K1 Final - David Ford (CAN) - 10th Place
On his Final performance:
"I flipped so I'm disappointed. From gate six onwards was terrible. That's the sport though, anything can happen. It's the nature of the beast."

Men's K1 Final - Helmut Oblinger (AUT) - 4th Place
On how he feels about his race:
"I can't be happy with the result, but that's the way it is. I don't deserve a medal."

Men's C2 Final - Marian Olejnik and Milan Kuban (SVK) - 2nd Place
On the race:
Marian Olejnik:
"This is our biggest achievement. We have a lot of good luck in Australia."

Men' s K1 Final- Peter Cibak (SVK) - 3rd Place
"I'm very happy and I've only ever dreamed of this. My emotions are mixed, I don't know what I'm feeling. My previous best was a 4th at a World Cup event and third at the European Championship. I was nervous because I had to wait for nine other guys. This is my best result ever."

Men's K1 Final – Fabian Doerfler (GER) – 1st Place
On the way he tackled the final race:
"I just told myself I wanted to do it how I do it all the time."
